HIDDEN SOURCES OF
WHEAT PRODUCTS |
| The vast majority of
processed foods contain wheat in some form or another, including
sausages, beef burgers, sweets, chocolate, fruit yogurts etc. It is
essential to read all labels carefully. |
The task of finding
alternatives is now a great deal easier as many supermarkets now have
'wheat free' counters and health food shops provide a further source of
specialist products. |
| Many tablets
contain wheat as a bulking agent, including most vitamin tablets and so
does glue on envelopes, postage stamps and sticky labels (but don't stop
any drugs without discussing with your doctor). |
|
LABELLING - other names for 'Wheat' |
| Look out for names such as 'flour', 'cereal
binder', 'cereal filler', 'cereal protein', 'cereal starch', 'cornstarch',
'edible starch', 'food starch', 'modified starch', 'MSG or monosodium
glutamate', 'rusk', 'special edible starch', 'starch', 'thickener',
'vegetable protein'. All these surprisingly contain wheat. |
