TESTING
In
order for us to be able to function at our optimum level it is essential that we
provide our bodies with the correct 'fuel' - but many of us suffer from adverse
reactions to the foods that we eat. These reactions may present as either a true
allergy or a food intolerance. An allergy involves a
demonstrable response from the immune system and usually produces immediate effects such as a rash,
swollen mouth/gums or more serious life-threatening situations such as
difficulty breathing or anaphylactic shock. These are normally easy to identify
and are best handled by your GP, who will probably involve the services of an
Immunologist. However, food or drink intolerances are usually
far subtler and less easy to identify and these are our main interest. They
aggravate a huge number of commonly occurring illnesses and states of ill health
seen by GPs but sadly, due to a lack of acceptance of this association by many
doctors and other traditional health workers, many of you may not be aware of
this connection. We do not usually test for food intolerances in our
Clinic because we find that we are able to
treat problems by carefully assessing your health and using our years of
experience to work out the best treatment plan for you. But for those of you who
prefer to have a test the one that we
recommend you use is provided by Yorktest Laboratories Ltd.
They can test up to 113 different foods from just a tiny pin-prick of blood,
using the IgG ELISA method. They will provide the results within 10
working days together with a Food Intolerance Guide Book. For
further details about them and the tests they provide they can be contacted at:
