FOOD FOR YOU

ADDITIVE FREE DIET

 :

The addition of additives to food has chiefly resulted from the population's demand for a cheap and plentiful supply of foods and drinks. So in a way many problems are our fault! As far as we are concerned , abusing foods and drinks in this way has been one of the most enormous mistakes of all time. You wouldn't put substandard fuel into your car and expect it to run properly but that's what millions of us expect from a far more sophisticated biological machine - our own bodies. There is not space here to go into great detail about the reasons for excluding additives but if you wish to know more about this emotive subject then there are many books available.

We consider Chlorine in tap water as one of the subtlest, problematical additives. It is, after all, diluted bleach. The Government has a duty to protect us against potentially harmful germs and chemicals that may be in our water, which is obviously one of the main reasons why it is there. However, Chlorine also annihilates the vulnerable and useful bacteria and other organisms in your bowels that help you digest foods and drinks.

What you can do is remove Chlorine and other contaminants from your drinking water with either a jug water filter or by fitting an in-line water filter.

Obviously, the Food, Drink and Farming Industries have a commitment to providing safe, palatable and presentable foods and drinks but like the situation regarding tap water, they have overlooked the side effects of preservatives and other additives used to achieve these ends. You can easily imagine suing them for a product that goes off or mouldy, it is less easy making a claim against them for your headache that was caused by some artificial colouring or other ingredient! The balanced view is to work with them and campaign the Government to help these industries to encourage safer ways to produce foods and drinks. It is easy to sit back and wait for someone else sort this issue out, however, most of you reading this are parents and have children - are you happy just basically poisoning them?

Certain problems in society are now at epidemic levels and they are nothing to do with infections! Recent figures suggest that one in four teenage boys in the UK are committing serious crimes and the need for the amphetamine-like drug Ritalin seems ever-increasing to control behaviour disorders in children. But what happens when they become adults? Do they suddenly become model people in society? We don't thinks so! There are increasing numbers of 'children' in their twenties who are still attending child psychiatrists, mainly to obtain further supplies of Ritalin!
