ABOUT US
Dr James Anderson MbChB, DRCOG, MRCGP
Up until 2007 Dr James Anderson was the senior partner of a very busy traditional General Practice in the centre of the bustling town of Worthing, West Sussex in the UK where he worked for over 27 years. Early on in his career in 1984, he became a bit disgruntled with the limitations of treating patients with drugs and operations, so decided to look at their illnesses and states of ill health from the more natural perspective of diet. As a result of achieving success with many of his GP patients over the years, he has now decided to concentrate exclusively on this new work in order to spread his views and experience to a much larger audience. He is the son of Sir Professor Ferguson Anderson (Emeritus Professor of Geriatrics, the first chair established in the World) who led a fascinating life and was, without doubt, one of the most talented people, let alone doctors of his time. His son inherited much of his pioneering skills and strong personality and realised that there was a huge flaw in conventional medicine before he had even completed his training. He qualified in Medicine from Glasgow University in 1975 and then opted to follow a voluntary 3 year Vocational Training Scheme. This involved working in various hospital specialities and general practices. During this time he obtained his Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (DRCOG) and passed the MRCGP, becoming a member of the Royal College of General Practice. He has regularly attended lectures organised by like minded groups such as Action Against Allergy and the British Society of Allergy, Environmental and Nutritional Medicine (now the British Society for Ecological Medicine). Soon after becoming interested in Food Intolerance he undertook a study of around 200 patients using a Cytotoxic Test carried out by York Medical Centre (now YorkTest Laboratories) and followed up 100 of those patients for 5 years. When he was a member of the West Sussex Local Medical Committee he tried to get this type of work recognised under the NHS but sadly failed to impress anyone that there was a need for it. In 2000 he started a specialist Clinic within his GP Practice with a Nutritionist, Jackie Biddle, and they carried out a brief study of the subject which was published in the Journal of Allergy and Environmental Medicine in 2002, thanks to a lot of hard work on Jackie's part, analysing the results. It revealed that most patients responded favourably to a dietary approach and in quite a few instances, reported that they were better in additional ways. As well as concentrating on writing a book and booklet on his views and experiences, Dr Anderson lectures on the subject, has been a member of various Food Intolerance Groups and is currently president elect of the Royal Society of Medicine's Food Forum Council.
